A two-piece spacecraft that was used to transport a crew of two from lunar orbit to the lunar surface and back. The descent stage served as a launch pad for the ascent phase in addition to containing the landing gear, engines and fuel needed for the landing. Six modules successfully landed on the Moon between 1969 and 1972.
