Barley and Wheat is a card game for two players. Its clever mechanics of alternating turns add a fascinating touch to player interaction, card drawing and resource management.
Founded on the fruitful lands of an ancient monastery, two villages have retained the dual traditions of brewing beer and baking bread. Although they share their fields and resources, they still pride themselves on their friendly rivalry to outdo each other's products.
Each of you represents one of these villages. Over the course of six years - which alternate between fruitful and dry - you must harmonise your tasks of harvesting and storing resources, producing beer and bread, selling coins and improving your facilities.
However, to win, you need to maintain a balance between your cooked and liquid products. After the sixth year, you only score the coins collected for the type of goods - beer or bread - for which you earned less. The village with the highest score wins.
