The Lockheed® P-38 Lightning served the US Army during the Second World War. Recognisable by its distinctive twin boom/centre nacelle design, the P-38 was nicknamed the "Fork-tailed Devil" by Axis pilots. Used as both a long-range fighter and a fighter-bomber, the P-38 played a vital role in many of the major missions of the Second World War.
